Meet our April Artists and Poets!

Taste the local flavor, experience the local art. Featured this month, our menu shares the spotlight with talented artists and poets from our community. We are hosting an artist reception here on Sunday, April 12th at 5:00pm.

After many years of traditional training in oil painting, photography, design and computers, I began doing illustration work for all of the major publishing houses.

After moving to Florida my “Vintage Pop” style developed – influenced by the bright colors and groovy feeling of this area. I have been lucky enough to have painted a few murals around town.

The only solution to homelessness is housing.

Second Heart Homes support, and love, to 68 men and women who once lived on the streets and struggled with mental illnesses.

Through 11 homes across Sarasota and Manatee counties, and with two new duplex homes opening in April for 12 women coming off the streets, Second Heart Homes helps end homelessness in people’s lives permanently through its unique model based on housing, support, and love, all without government funding.

The poems featured on the April menus at Arts & Central were written by residents now living in Second Heart Homes. Their voices helped inspire the documentary The Healing Mirror, which will premiere at the Sarasota Film Festival on April 17 @ 2 PM.

The accompanying artwork was created in collaboration with artist and volunteer Kelly Kearns.
